Once again the Nirvana Santa ride headed out into the Surrey Hills to bring festive cheer to all & sundry. The outfits this year were superb & the best one had to be Paul's, who succeeded in being the biggest fairy riding the tartiest bike in the Surrey Hills all day..maybe ever! After a fun ride we headed off to The Plough pub at Coldharbour which provided a superb Xmas dinner & provided a fitting end to a fun day.
It's that time of year again when our thoughts turn to festive fun & frivolity. As Xmas comes every year, so the Nirvana Santa ride inevitably arrives again. This year we have the added bonus of having our Xmas meal immediately after the ride at The Plough in Coldharbour. Which under new management is now very mtb friendly & offers superb food & liquid refreshment. Ride leaves at 11am & food at the pub from 4pm. Either put your name down when you pop in the shop or give us a …
The conditions were great for the Saturday Freeride ride, so we took advantage of them before it gets a bit too wet & muddy for the winter. Headed over to 'Contraflow' & had a whale of a time with a few thrills & spills but some riders succeeding in nailing some tricky jumps. Thanks again to Dan for the filming & editing

The trails were in primo condition for both the Saturday jump ride & the Sunday ride. Here's a nice little video of the guys riding a newly discovered trail called 'Uncle Albert'. The beauty of riding in the Surrey Hills is that you never get bored, always fresh, always fun!
If you fancy improving your skills level, then check out local rider Sam Brightman who has been riding since he was knee high to a grasshopper. In fact it's Sam who is the rider on our header photo advertising our freeride practise sessions. He spent a year in Canada where he took his coaching badges, which are hard earned over there & then spent the rest of his time there coaching around Whistler. He has now started up his own coaching business right here in the Surrey Hills. Whether you' …
Paul & Dave turned up on their Fat Bikes for the Saturday jumpy practice ride & managed to get a bit of air. Will then showed them how to do it on 'The jump with no name'. He also succeeded it getting a massive amount of distance over at 'Toad Hall'.
Summer has finally arrived & what a fantastic day to be out on the bikes. We headed over to Simon's new trails & got some jump practice in. Dave, Wayne & Russell were fairly new to jumping but made amazing progress with Russell topping it off by showing how not do it at the end. Luckily he was ok & soon got back into the swing of things.

No matter how long we've been riding there is always room for improvement. In fact, that's the beauty of mountain biking, we're always seeking out new trails & different challenges & that means our skill levels are constantly met, exceeded & challenged. So Simon packed up his Evil Insurgent & headed up to see Tony Doyle aka 'The Jedi' up at his vista in deepest Hertfordshire. Tony has been running UK Bike Skills for over 10 years & both Simon & I have been up to see …

Our resident ride Guru Tony Berlin has written down some of his thoughts on the Evil
Now the weather's settled I decided to get a few rides in on the Evil Insurgent. I already own an Evil 'The Following' 29er so was looking forward to seeing how this beast rode. Well first thing I noticed with this bike is the fantastic colour and how beautiful the frame is, it's the same suspension as 'The Following' utilising the Dave Weagle design which I think is fantastic. It does look complicated down in …

Dan Hutchings movie maker extraordinaire took the Evil Insurgent out for a ride Here's his video & brief impression of the ride - Testing the Evil Insurgent from Nirvana Cycles. Brilliantly fun bike. lf there is one that can do it all, this could be it! Pedals uphill much better than it should with 150/160mm travel, and goes down like it's possessed. I want one.
Available as frame (£2800) or complete bike (from £4999) contact Nirvana Cycles to Demo or buy.
Bike packing seems to be becoming much more popular & here's a little write up from our resident all things biking guru Tony B.
So the Dartmoor bike packing adventure was awesome. We cheated a bit and stayed in bunkhouses next to pubs for some creature comforts that were much needed after spending the days riding in bloody cold conditions. It was interesting seeing everyone's bike setups and what they where using to carry their gear.I had a home made bar harness which held my …
