  • Nirvana Santa Ride 2015

The day may have been dreary, but the  Santas, Elves & reindeers were anyting but. There was a good turnout, enticed I'm sure by the the promise of cakes & food at the end of the ride. We stuck to Leith Hill & Redlands & despite the mucky conditions had a fabulous ride. There were plenty of tumbles in the slippery conditions but nothing serious. Thanks To Alison for organising & Dave & Jen for the food afterwards & big thanks to Chief Elf Dan, for coming up with …

  • Evil's new Insurgent 27.5

The new Insurgent has been getting a lot of attention at the bike shows this year. A long, low and slack full carbon machine with 151mm of rear travel that's been designed to deliver devilish amounts of fun out on the trail. Like the Following, the Insurgent uses Evil's DELTA Link suspension design, a modified single pivot configuration developed by Dave Weagle that uses short links between the swingarm and the shock to achieve a dual leverage rate curve. A flip chip allows the head angle to be …

  • Nirvana rides Enduro

Some of the guys were up in Yorkshire the the Ard rock Enduro. The feedback from Tony B, our resident rider, mechanic & guru, is that it's the best event he's ridden! Epic climbs combined with epic downhills. Some of the hardest riding he's encountered. Well done to Tony, Jon, Ryan & Ian. Here's a little write on on what enduro racing is about by Tony Berlin:

So last race of the uk Gravity enduro coming up weekend of 19th sept, places left. So what's this enduro racing like? Well I' …

  • Epic day for Prudential 100

Epic day in shop today fixing bikes for rider's in the Prudential ride 100. Thankfully the weather, unlike last year, was perfect. We barely saw the first riders as they sailed through early & fast, but as the day went on a steady stream began to flow through. Most common problems were broken spokes, closely followed by broken mech hangers & rear mechs. Mostly caused by other riders riding into them. Once again the food stalls on the village green were doing a thriving business & …

  • 'Helping hand' for Saturday ride

The weather was great once again, if anything a shower of rain would dampen the dust down a bit. We had a mixture of riders & abilities which always makes the ride fun. We did some fun, tricky, singletrack which some of the riders hadn't seen before. Consequently, there were a few 'long' dabs, with the steepness of the trail it was quite difficult to get going again. Full marks to Prince for the over the bars effort which seemed to be assisted by Dan catching his back wheel then sort of …

  • 2015 Evil The following 29er has arrived

New for 2015 Evil's The following has been creating quite a stir over in the good 'ol USA for a while. A 120 travel 29er which has the FUN factor created by the super short chainstays, slack head angle & low bottom bracket.

It utilises Dave Weagle’s DELTA linkage, which had the almost supernatural ability to react exactly how and when wanted whilst climbing. The frame rests at an ideal spot in its travel no matter how steep or how hard the pedal stroke. Swappable chips in the …

  • Nirvana Visits Bikepark Wales

Last Friday we headed off to Bikepark Wales. The 5.30am start was a bit of a shock, but it was well worth it. The weather was superb with plenty of sun & no wind & the trails were dry. Managed to fit in 9 runs & lunch at the excellent cafe. The whole set up is very professional with very little waiting time between up lifts. Dan has put together a little video of some of the action & he's the rider in the photo.

  • Leith Hill Mega 2015

Excellent turnout for the Leith Hill Mega on Saturday night. Terrific atmosphere as well & with much anticipation of what lay ahead. Luckily there was no carnage on the tower descent just excellent skills dealing with the roots which had become a little bit slippy by the downpour of rain which dampened the trail but not the spirits. First down was a guy in a british cycling skinsuit, which was a little bit incongruous with everyone else in baggies! However, he pinned it from top to bottom …

  • A Great Sunday ride

The weather was ideal for the ride today & a good number turned up, with a few newcomers joining in. The trails were running sweet & we hit the singletrack on Ranmore & Mickleham predominantly. Taking in Reformation, Rip van Winkle, Pink socks, Batrun & many more I can't remember. Got a nice little video of some of the guys hitting the last jump on Reformation. The best bit though was stopping off at Grant's for Pizza from his pizza oven. doesn't get any better, thanks Grant.& …

  • Styling on Reformation, Sunday ride

The weather was great & the trails in perfect condition so there was a good turn out for the Sunday ride. We took in Ranmore first & enjoyed styling up some of the jumps on Reformation & Neil managed to do a 14ft gap jump which had defeated him previously, so well done there. Headed over to Drum & Bass where the jumps have been altered with the take off ramps much steeper, great for a hardtail but quite tricky on a full sus. Lunch was at the teashop in Shere, who do a sandwich & …

  • Lapierre Zesty 527 first Sat ride

As Simon was covering in the shop for an absent Rowan, who spent the weekend at 'Desertfest' which looks like a fun music bash in Camden. Dan 'Air' stepped up to the plate & led the freeride practice ride. There was a decent turn out which included Matt, taking his newly purchased Lapierre Zesty 527  on it's inaugural ride. Below, you can see the fruits of his labour with the moral of the story being, buy a Lapierre Zesty 527 (£3149 carbonframe, 150mm travel) from Nirvana cycles & …

  • Banshee Demo Day

Fortunately the weather was kind to us for our Banshee demo day. Pat from Ison Distribution the UK importer for Banshee turned up with eight bikes from the Banshee range. The Spitfire with 140mm travel & 27.5" wheels was probably the most demoed, but the Rune with160mm 27.5" & Prime 130 29" were pretty close behind. The rides went hourly & took in Reformation, Abba Zabba, Blind Terror etc up on Ranmore.  Dan 'air' our resident cameraman for the day managed to get some pretty …

  • Fun Saturday ride

There was a good turn out for the Saturday freeride practice ride which included some new faces & some old returning ones. Conditions were good so we headed over to Ranmore to conquer 'Reformation'. Amy was the star of the show who had travelled up from Cornwall to ride with us. Luckily this meant she could visit her brother, Matt, who lives nearby as well. She went from not jumping to jumping a 14ft gap jump, this didn't happen by luck, she listened to what Simon had to say then followed …

  • Landmark Saturday Ride

There was a good turn out for the Nirvana Saturday ride. Unsurprising , considering it felt like the first day of spring. There was a mixture of abilities so we headed over to 'Head's Roll' to get a bit of practice in & build everyones confidence up over some jumps. We then bimbled on over to Leith hill for some wiggle waggle riding which if you've ridden with Simon you'll know exactly what that is! Lots of twists, turn, ups & downs. Then Dan revealed that he had his eye on doing ' …

  • Nirvana's 20th Anniversary Ride

So 20 years ago to the day, we opened our doors with eager expectations & our Sunday ride began. Who would have thought all this time later we would still be leading a ride out on a Sunday. The rain had abated from the dreary drizzle from the day before & the sun made an appearance every now & then. It was inevitable that we would get muddy but with Simon leading the ride & drawing on 20 years of experience, this was kept to a minimum with a well chosen route. It did have a bit …

  • Wednesday old blokes ride

There was decent turn out for the ride considering it's February, cold & wet. So with Jo proving that women really can multi task by changing, talking & preparing her bike the ride left on time. We kept to Leith Hill but managed to get in some skills practice with Dave building on what he learnt on the Saturday freeride practice. Jo was also improving her jumping skills & just needs to believe in herself more. The little clip below is of 'Your head's on fire' with Dave mastering it …

  • Slippery Sat & Sun rides

For the Saturday ride we headed over to Mickleham & after perfect conditions yesterday where the trails were frosty but grippy. Today was warmer & slippy! Spent a bit of time practicing some jumps to get warmed up & build up the confidence. Then we all proceeded to slide down the hill, well all apart from Dan who filmed the video & consequently we don't get to see his masterclass! I myself had a little off on one of the jumps, which the video shows me mastering (yellow Lapierre …

  • Old skool Sunday ride

Surpisingly, a reasonable number of riders tuned up for the Sunday ride, even though the weather wasn't at it's best! We hit Leith Hill, taking in 'Touch Sensitive', 'Wild wood,' then down to Friday Street & 'Soul mining'.  Climbed up Holmbury hill & did the all weather 'Parklife' followed by 'Telegraph Road' then stopping off for cheesy chips & tea at the excellent Royal Oak pub. We then carried on back up Leith hill & onto Redlands woods & 'Psychedelic warlord' …

  • Amazing Intense Tracer T275c review

Mountain Flyer , an American magazine, have done an amazing review of the Intense Tracer T275c mountain bike. We have a custom built one in the shop which is available to demo, just call to book. I particularly agree with the fact this bike is part of an evolutionary process. Intense have been around since the beginning of mountain biking & their experience of building bikes, from the design process to actually welding them together is invaluable. The knowledge over the years of what works & …
